39 Enchantments in Minecraft – Part 1

The Enchantment system can be considered the biggest support for players in Minecraft. New versions add a lot of different types of enchantments. Enchantments not only increasing combat power but also many other uses, extremely diverse.

For your convenience, I will provide information about all 39 types of Minecraft enchantments in these 2 posts.

I. Items needed for enchantment

1. Enchanting Table

  • The Enchantment Table is used to create the Enchanted Book.
  • Need at least 15 Bookshelf arranged around (1 block away) for best effect.
  • Each enchantment costs 1 Book , some Lapis Lazuli and experience points.
  • You can use unenchanted equipment instead of books. Direct equipment is enchanted without using an Anvil.

2. Bookshelf

  • The Bookshelf is arranged as shown to increase the enchantment Lv to 30 (max). As long as there are at least 15 Bookshelf and 1 block away, how you arrange them is up to you.
  • You can use the “Silk Touch” tool to relaim the bookshelf for more options.
  • When your Lv is over 30, you have a chance to get good books (or equipment) with 2-3 lines of enchantment.

3. Lapis Lazuli

  • Is the energy for the Enchantment Table to work.
  • Lapis Lazuli Ore can be found at altitudes from 0 to 30.

4. Anvil

  • Used to add enchantments to equipment. Requires equipment and corresponding enchantment books.
  • Can be used to repair, combine enchanted equipment.

5. Grindstone

  • Used to remove enchantments from equipment. Just put enchanted equipment in a left slot, will receive equipment in the right slot along with experience points. Note that the enchantment will disappear without being able to get it back.

6. Book

  • Is the raw material for making Bookshelf.
  • Is the material for the Enchanted Table to create the Enchanted Book.

II. Types of enchantments

** When enchanted by command, the Lv of the enchantment can be up to Lv 2,147,483,647 (Java version 1.13 and above) and Lv 255 (Java version 1.17 and above). But the effect of the enchantment may not correspond to Lv, even lose its effect. Regarding cheat enchantments, I will use purple letters to distinguish them!!

General enchantment

1. Mending

Max level: I

Item: All items have durability when in use.

Uses: Use the experience points gained to repair equipment. Fixing two durability points requires one experience point. Equipment must be worn or held in hand.

Note:

  • Can’t be used with Infinity (bow).
  • As a precious enchantment, it can’t be obtained using the Enchantment Table. You can find it in chests, fishing, trading with villagers, etc.
  • When using the command, both Mending and Infinity enchanments can be used normally.
  • Max level I, higher levels effective like Lv1.

2. Unbreaking

Max level: III

Item: All items have durability when in use.

Use: Has a chance that the item’s durability will not be reduced when used. Thanks to this, the item can be used more times.

  • Max level 255.

3. Curse of Vanishing

Max level: I

Items: All items can be enchanted, including Compass, Carved Pumpkin, Skull and Head.

Uses: When the player dies, this cursed item in the player’s inventory will disappear.

Note: Items in the Shulker Box will not disappear.

4. Efficiency

Max level: V

Items: Pickaxe, Shovel, Axe, Hoe, Shears.

Uses: Increases mining speed. Increases the probability of disabling Shield (Axe only).

Note: Mining speed only increases when you use the right kind of tools to mine.

  • Max level 255.

5. Silk Touch

Max level: I

Items: Pickaxe, Shovel, Axe, Hoe.

Uses: When mining, causes some blocks to drop their block form without dropping items. For example, mining Diamond Ore will drop ore block without dropping Diamond as usual.

Note: Can’t be used with Fortune.

  • When used together, Fortune loses its effect, Silk Touch takes precedence.

6. Fortune

Max level: III

Items: Pickaxe, Shovel, Axe, Hoe.

Uses: Increases the number of items dropped when mining ores. Increase the drop rate of Apple, Sapling, Flint, … etc. From level 3 and above, the probability of dropping Flint when mining Gravel is 100%.

Note: Can’t be used with Silk Touch.

  • When used together, Fortune loses its effect, Silk Touch takes precedence.
  • Max level 255.
  • Lv too high can cause lag.

7. Luck of the Sea

Max level: III

Item: Fishing Rod.

Uses: Increases the chance of catching rare items (about 2% per level), greatly reduces the chance of catching trash (about 2% per level), slightly reduces the chance of catching fish (about 0.15% per level).

  • Maximum level is 255, but when Lv is higher than 84, nothing will be caught.

8. Lure

Max level: III

Item: Fishing Rod.

Uses: Reduces waiting time for fish to bite (5 seconds per level).

  • Levels higher than 5, “fish” will no longer “bite the hook”.
